So we pushed on from Brookton through the Wheat Belt<\/a> to Kondinin<\/a> via Corrigin<\/a>. The Seagulls had returned from their East Coast sojourn and were back in Albany after finishing a short trip with other friends who were in W.A. Seeing that we were Kondinin<\/a> they made a beeline north to meet us there to see Wave Rock<\/a> and the other attractions of the area.<\/p>\n\n\n

We met them at the Kondinin Caravan Park<\/a>, a fabulous little council run caravan and cabin park, with about a dozen van sites and three cabins. Everything about this park was immaculate and well kept. And the amazing thing was that it was relatively cheap as well with power and water at $25 per night. Kondinin<\/a> should be congratulated and rightly proud for offering such a brilliant facility for travellers in the heart of their small town. The weather was warm, the skies were clear and it really was nice to just sit out under the awning on the grassy area behind the vans and enjoy a sundowner or two and swap stories since the last time we saw each other.<\/p>\n\n\n

Kondinin<\/a> itself is another charming regional Wheat Belt<\/a> town. These little towns are quiet but full of character. They still survive from agriculture but also reap the tourist dollars without ripping off tourists and travellers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We chose Kondinin<\/a> for our three nights due to it being central to Hyden<\/a> and the magnificent Wave Rock<\/a> as well as Kulin<\/a> and the Tin Horse Highway. It proved to be a full on two and a half days. Catching up with the Seagulls and seeing the these places with them was an unexpected surprise before they headed back west. We would continue around the Wheat Belt<\/a> before meeting them again back in Busselton after some vists from our east coast friends in Margaret River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All in all it was a great three days…<\/p>\n\n<\/div>

Most people have heard of Wave Rock<\/a> yet it does not have the same level of reverence or mystique as Uluru, Kata-Tjuta, the Horizontal Falls or the Great Barrier Reef. Like ningaloo (the reef) it sits in a second tier of Australian iconic places and yet fully deserves to be in the first tier. Wave Rock<\/a> is AWESOME…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No picture does it justice and nothing prepares you for your first glimpse as it appears in front of you and rears up, for all the world like a breaking wave turned to stone at the crucial moment. Indeed, from a certain vantage point it even looks like the waves you see in a surfing competition from a camera on a jet ski as the wave rolls past. It is absolutely stunning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The natural staining on the face of the wall accentuates the imagery and heightens the scale of its grandeur. It is nature imitating nature and it is, in our opinion, a bonafide wonder of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n

And again… we were privileged, with the Seagulls, to have it all to ourselves with only a handful of others there to enjoy its spledour.<\/p>\n\n\n
