As such, cruise ships dock at a small town called <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Whittier,_Alaska\" target=\"_blank\">Whittier<\/a>, which is 100km south-east of Anchorage following the Seward Highway.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/rjjc.net\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/Beluga-Point-3-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1063\" width=\"170\" height=\"113\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rjjc.net\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/Beluga-Point-3-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/rjjc.net\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/Beluga-Point-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rjjc.net\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/Beluga-Point-3-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/rjjc.net\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/Beluga-Point-3-1536x1023.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/rjjc.net\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/Beluga-Point-3.jpg 1732w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 170px) 100vw, 170px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Beluga Point Vista<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>To get there we booked a transfer coach that provided a scenic tour including a lunch stop at the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.alaskawildlife.org\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.alaskawildlife.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center<\/a>. The route took us out of Anchorage and down the Seward Highway following the coastline of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Turnagain_Arm\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Turnagain_Arm\" target=\"_blank\">Turnagain Arm<\/a>. It was quite interesting to see a not-for-profit facility caring for and preserving native Alaskan wildlife and, in particular, bringing the Wood Bison back from edge of extinction. One building is where all the residents of the town, around 200, once lived in apartments all under the same roof. The town was built during World War 2 as a military facility and port with the two tower being put up in the 50&#8217;s.
